Oak trees are one of the slower growing trees so having it replaced after it dies will mean it will take years for it to grow back. By taking good care of your oak tree you ensure it a long life.

Knowing when to prune your trim your oak tree is vital to its grow and health. Mature oak trees don't need constant care or maintenance pruning to keep it healthy and well. Though knowing what time of year to prune it is important to know. Be aware that if you decide to prune your oak tree yourself be sure to sharpen those tools to prevent any tree stress

When To Trim Your Oak Tree

Never trim or prune your oak tree during the spring season. This is usually when oak trees have a high chance of contracting oak wilt fungus. A fungus that causes symptoms of leaf discoloration, wilt, defoliation and more. It can also be transmitted easily from tree to tree. This fungus can also kill a tree within one season.

The riskiest time of year to prune your tree is between February 1 and June 1. there are other researchers and tree experts that say April to October is a risky time of year also. This advice can change from place to place and the kind of weather that takes place where you live.

If you do prune your tree during the springtime the trees wound will ooze sap which will then attract beetles. Their love for sap is undefeated and it will come at the expense of your oak tree once they feed on its sap. Their spores will then bring the fungus.

So prevent any contamination from happening to your tree prune in the summer though do not overdue the pruning by taking 25% of your trees branches.
